The purpose of the internship program is to provide accounting students with a meaningful work experience that not only provides an orientation to the organization and the culture of public accounting, but also builds upon classroom learning and develops a foundation for higher-level staff accountant responsibilities.
As an intern you will have many of the same responsibilities of a full-time staff accountant, including opportunities to work with our Directors and other professional staff on a variety of client engagements. Many of our Interns receive job offers to return to Blue & Co. as a full-time Staff Accountant after graduation.
By the end of the assignment, the intern should be able to prepare less complex tax returns and support needed tax research projects. The intern will learn:
- How to utilize such programs as BNA, Directlink, GoSystem Tax, Unilink, Word, and Excel.
- Tax return fundamentals, and assist in the preparation of less complex returns including
property and payroll tax returns.
- How to prepare and update depreciation schedules.
By the end of the assignment, the intern should be able to provide basic staff-level support during an audit engagement and should be proficient enough on available systems to support research needs and/or provide basic accounting support. The intern will learn:
- How to utilize ATB, BNA, and Excel Software.
- How to prepare trial balances and fixed asset additions.
- How to set up work papers files.
- About, and participate in, the audit planning process.
- How to perform basic computations/compilations related to the audit and review process.
By the end of the assignment, the intern should be able to provide basic staff level support in Healthcare audits and consulting and should be proficient enough on available systems to support research needs and/or provide basic computational support. The intern will learn:
- How to complete Medicaid/Medicare costing reports.
- Audit fundamentals.
- About the HC consulting process, and begin to support client consultative needs.
